Beyond Your ToilHello Friends, This week, I've been reflecting on a powerful story from the Gospel of Luke (5:1-11) that holds a profound lesson for our professional and personal endeavours. Jesus is preaching by the Lake of Gennesaret, surrounded by a crowd. He steps into a boat belonging to Simon Peter and teaches from there. After finishing, He turns to Simon and says, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon, a seasoned fisherman, replies with understandable exhaustion: “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.” He had toiled to the absolute limit of his human capacity, using all his expertise, and had nothing to show for it. Yet, he follows up with a pivotal phrase: “But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” The result was a catch so enormous that their nets began to break. They signalled their partners in another boat to come help, and both boats were so filled that they began to sink. The Deep Water Lesson What fascinates me about this story is its brilliant lesson in business and life. Simon Peter was the expert. He knew the lake, the fish, and the best techniques. He had done everything right, yet his efforts alone yielded nothing. It was only when he acted on Christ's instruction that his work was met with overwhelming abundance. This isn't a story that devalues hard work or expertise. Instead, it redefines it. It teaches us that "in as much as we toil to the end of our human capacity, with God there is room for more." We are called to be experts in our trades. We must give our best effort, plan our strategies, and work hard through the "night." But there is a dimension of success—a "deep water"—that our strength alone cannot reach. There is room for more that can only be unlocked through divine partnership. Your Net This Week In our endeavours, we often face the same scenario. We've exhausted our knowledge, our energy, and our plans. We've "toiled all night." This story is an invitation to not give up, but to listen for guidance and be willing to cast your net one more time, not in your own strength, but in faithful obedience. My personal mantra has always been: "Give it your all, and God will do the rest." Do the work. Be the expert. But always leave room for the miracle. Be willing to cast your net into the deep. A Question to Ponder Where in your life or work are you being called to "put out into deep water," even if your previous efforts have come up empty? Wishing you a week of abundant catches, |

Salary vs Time There’s something about the concept of a salary that continues to fascinate and reveal itself to me over time. It’s as if it’s designed to hide its true nature from us when we first receive it, only slowly showing its reality as our lives change. I’ve often found myself looking at someone’s income with questions. For some, I wonder, "How do you make this work for a family?" when the number seems too small. For others—those I consider privileged top earners—who claim it's still...
The Euphoria of Interbank Games Ever had a week start so well it feels surreal? Mine began with an unexpected adrenaline rush: I witnessed the electrifying finals of the Interbank Games’ tug-of-war championship. And wow it’s been years since I felt that kind of raw competitive energy. Picture this: Teams of bankers, sleeves rolled up, digging their heels into the mud. The crowd roaring, ropes straining, and that heart-pounding moment when momentum swings in a split second. It wasn’t just a...
lessons from Car Boss Car Wash Over the weekend, I visited my colleague’s new car wash in Bindura—a venture that had just passed its first month of operation. What surprised me most were the fascinating business dynamics at play, along with these key lessons: Lesson 1: Don’t Fear Competition As I walked 400–500m from the bus stop to her car wash, I noticed two busy car washes along the way. Hers was the third. Later, when l boarded the bus back home, I spotted another one directly opposite...
