Shepherd Leadership StyleI have had the privilege to attend a leadership course at my church. Every time there is a new executive sworn in a leadership course is hosted to help put every leader on the same page. It is very necessary to do this since church leadership usually is not about merit, people choose who they like to assume leadership positions depending on how they perceive them at any given election time. What this does is it puts people from all walks of life in the same WhatsApp group to lead the congregants. The course shows the role of the lay leaders, and their purpose to help the clergy in their mission to uplift and spread the gospel. it covers liturgy, catechism, stages of parish development, leadership styles and roles of each executive member. The good thing is the roles are similar across the parish. A chairman's role is the same regardless of whether he is chair of the Parish, centre or section. The same is true for the secretary and treasurer. One takeaway from this leadership course is the concept of Shepard leadership. A metaphorical Approach to leadership inspired by the role of a shepherd guiding and caring for their flock. in as much as the style emphasizes guidance, direction, protection, and care among many, it is leading by example that really caught my attention. sometimes as leaders in a setting like a church, the best way to grow is to lead by example. it is in doing that we too learn about our faith and get to partake in the spread of the gospel. It is different from a corporate set-up where we can afford to let some subordinates do tasks while we supervise them. In doing we too are praying and growing at the same time - something that highly motivates others to take action. Beyond Your Toil Hello Friends, This week, I've been reflecting on a powerful story from the Gospel of Luke (5:1-11) that holds a profound lesson for our professional and personal endeavours. Jesus is preaching by the Lake of Gennesaret, surrounded by a crowd. He steps into a boat belonging to Simon Peter and teaches from there. After finishing, He turns to Simon and says, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon, a seasoned fisherman, replies with understandable...
Salary vs Time There’s something about the concept of a salary that continues to fascinate and reveal itself to me over time. It’s as if it’s designed to hide its true nature from us when we first receive it, only slowly showing its reality as our lives change. I’ve often found myself looking at someone’s income with questions. For some, I wonder, "How do you make this work for a family?" when the number seems too small. For others—those I consider privileged top earners—who claim it's still...
The Euphoria of Interbank Games Ever had a week start so well it feels surreal? Mine began with an unexpected adrenaline rush: I witnessed the electrifying finals of the Interbank Games’ tug-of-war championship. And wow it’s been years since I felt that kind of raw competitive energy. Picture this: Teams of bankers, sleeves rolled up, digging their heels into the mud. The crowd roaring, ropes straining, and that heart-pounding moment when momentum swings in a split second. It wasn’t just a...
